About Us

Helping Hands Center for Special Needs is a non-profit organization located in Columbus, OH with a mission to meet the educational and therapeutic needs of children with autism and other developmental disabilities.

Helping Hands Center’s 2014 Annual Campaign is underway. Please consider making an end-of-year, tax-deductible contribution today.  Because of your generous contributions, the students at Helping Hands Center will learn to be a friend, to laugh, to play, to sing, to communicate, and ultimately reach their highest potential.  Consider a re-occurring gift and check with your HR department for matching gift options. However you decide to give, we are grateful for your support.

The parents of Helping Hands Center for Special Needs share their experiences in this touching video conceived by the center’s PTO and produced by Brainstorm Media.

Helping Hands Center approaches education from a holistic perspective and utilizes the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) which have been found to be one of the most effective treatments for autism. Teacher-to-student ratios throughout the center range from 1:1 to 1:3 and provide an unprecedented opportunity for learning. All students benefit from a range of therapy services in the center. More than twenty highly-qualified and certified therapists provide services to both the students enrolled in the Education Center as well as those who come to the Therapy Center strictly for therapeutic services. No other organization in central Ohio offers this number of therapies under one roof.

• The Speech Therapy department uses a variety of strategies to ensure each child has access to communication.
• The Music Therapy department helps children attain social language and communication as well as other developmental skills through active music making.
• The Occupational and Physical Therapy departments work with students on everyday skills, (e.g. holding a pencil/tying shoes) to skills related to play and recreation.

All four departments integrate seamlessly into the school day as well as collaborate with each other and the classrooms, providing a strong foundation for learning.
